Located on the same
lot as the Charles Rundle Mansion, The Edward Gallow Esq. Mansion
was built by Charles Rundle on spec for Gallow.
A young Irish immigrant, William Forster, was a bricklayer
on the site in 1889. He returned in 1924, as a successful builder,
and purchased the mansion for his family. The next year, he passed
away, leaving the home to his family. They converted the mansion into
4 apartments and stayed there until 1951.
This mansion features several stunning features such
as stained glass windows created by Robert McCausland, classic mantles,
a grand piano and a traditional cushioned window bench. The Breakfast
room at the rear of the mansion boasts a restored tin ceiling and
classic French doors that lead to the courtyard garden.
Victorian elegance at its best. The Edward Gallow along
with the Charles Rundle mansion, epitomize the character of Jarvis
street as it was in the 19th Century. A tribute to an era gone by,
they have been lovingly restored and contain many architectural details
both externally and internally.
